Carlisle 3.30

Carlisle 3.30 4 Calvados Spirit (2 point win) @ 9/2 / 8 Mon Beau Visage (1 point each way) @ 9-10/1 (all Bookies to 4th + SkyBet to 5th)
(see Mentions re Waarif and also Tricast suggestion and feel free to hedge and have an each way saver instead of win on Calvados Spirit if that floats your boat)

This is a tough and competitive renewal and it is hard to rule anything out as even the outsiders like Be Kool and Raselasad have bits of form that make them of interest; especially if the race suits out and out front runners. There are a host of in form Class 4 runners here and a number ran at Beverley in a race about a month ago that has turned out to be very solid form. El Principe won that day at 20/1 and runs again here. I feel though that having looked at the race over and over again, that it rather fell in to its lap as it was a day when anything running at the front won and both Vive La Difference and WAARIF that were runner up and fourth can overturn the form of that race here; El Principe can also run better than most fresh. Vive La Difference is a horse who has moved up from Class 5 to Class 4 winning and placing and gets a small pull with El Principe. Of more interest is WAARIF who not only didn't get the run of the race at Beverley but also "lost a fore shoe| in running and that gets a 7lbs pull for one and a half lengths and warrants a 1/2 point each way Mention Tip.

I think a mile will stretch the otherwise well handicapped Presidential and Alejandro is solid in Grade and well handicapped but my pair are both stepping down slightly in Class and intensity and from big Yards who will surely have had a sizable pick of options for this historic and prestigious prize. CALVADOS SPIRIT drops in to a Grade 4 off a very nice mark; may have some progression in it, and when the old Fahey/Hanaghan partnership reunite for a decent Handicap in the North, you always have to take note. I have noted as a win bet, if you wish to, have an each way/place saver, but I do feel it is the one to beat here and decent value in the context of the race.

The other selection is MON BEAU VISAGE, it too usually keeps better company running well regularly in Class 2 and 3 races. It's last few forays in to Class 4 have seen wins off 80 and 86, it may be slightly on the downgrade but cannily placed here off a mark of 83 I feel and with a nice draw in Stall 4 to get a prominent position. It is a strong travelling type who has a bit of added stamina too and will be disappointing if it is not in the front 4-5 at the finish (all Bookies go odds to 4th and SKYBET to 5th so use them if you can).

(If you want to play a Tricast look no further than the tips and mention and then VLD and Alejandro in that order)
